Housed in the Castello di San Giorgio and dedicated to Carlo Benetton, the archive holds more than 500 linear metres of documents, including 165 volumes, 1,750 registers and 2,500 files tracing the history of the Maccarese farming company since its founding in 1925. Born as a land-reclamation company to recover 4,500 hectares that once belonged to the Rospigliosi family, Maccarese has become one of Italy's largest farming companies, with 3,200 contiguous hectares. The collection tells the story of land reclamation, internal migration and twentieth-century farm labour struggles through the story of an entire area.
