Founded on 3 April 1908 by the Cosulich family as the Cantiere Navale Triestino, the Fincantieri plant in Monfalcone is today the group's largest, dedicated since 1991 to building large cruise ships: it launched the Carnival Destiny in 1996, the first cruise ship in history to exceed 100,000 gross tonnes. Shipyard visits, organised by MuCa - Museo della Cantieristica di Monfalcone in the former Workers' Hotel of the Panzano village, are held on Saturday mornings: after the museum route, a bus takes visitors along the plant's entire production cycle, from the sheet-metal yard to the dry dock and on to the fitting-out berths.
