The wool mill was founded in 1910 in Trivero by an eighteen-year-old Ermenegildo Zegna together with his father, and has never stopped making fine fabrics on the same site since. Next to the still-active factory stands Casa Zegna, which holds the historical archive and an exhibition dedicated to more than 110 years of the company's life. In the 1930s Ermenegildo also launched a vast reforestation project in the Biella mountains, creating the Oasi Zegna, now protected by the FAI heritage trust since 2014 and free to visit, with paid guided trails and excursions. The visit thus combines the wool mill's industrial history with the natural landscape its founder chose to give back to the local area.
