In 1951 Vincenzo Solimene, heir to a family of Vietri ceramicists active for more than a century, commissioned architect Paolo Soleri to design his new factory, completed in 1954: it is Soleri's only European work. The facade's conical volumes, set with more than 16,000 red and green ceramic pots, hold inside a spiral ramp along which the clay descends through the stages of production down to the showroom. A sculptural building that is at once factory, showcase and symbol of Vietri ceramics.
