Garofoli's origins go back to 1871, when Antonio Garofoli began selling wine to pilgrims heading to the Basilica of the Santa Casa in Loreto; it was his son Gioacchino who formally founded the winery in 1901. The estate was among the first to bottle single-vineyard, single-varietal Verdicchio in Bordeaux-shaped bottles, such as Podium, awarded Gambero Rosso's Tre Bicchieri fifteen times. The Castelfidardo winery, expanded between the 1960s and 1970s, houses the underground rooms dedicated to wood ageing. The visit traces this family history with a tasting of the signature wines of the Castelli di Jesi.
