Ar.Pe.Pe, whose name comes from founder Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, has roots going back to 1860, when the family began winemaking in Valtellina under the name Pelizzatti; the estate was reborn in its current form in 1984. On around 13 hectares between the Rhaetian Alps and the Orobie, the winery grows mountain Nebbiolo following Arturo's handed-down motto, "Nebbiolo's proper time", with hand-harvesting and ageing in oak and chestnut barrels. After Arturo's death in 2004, the estate is now run by his children Isabella, Emanuele and Guido, the fifth generation of winegrowers. Ar.Pe.Pe is an absolute benchmark for the longevity and character of Valtellina wines, guardians of a centuries-old tradition among Sondrio's terraced vineyards.
