Casa Martini / Martini & Rossi

Pessione, Piedmont

In Pessione, a few kilometres from Turin, the story of Italian vermouth began in 1863 when entrepreneur Alessandro Martini met herb expert Luigi Rossi. The visit to Casa Martini passes through the museum devoted to the botanicals and production stages, the wine plaza where the base wine arrives, the herb room and the copper stills, and on to the large steel vats where Martini Rosso is made, its recipe unchanged over time and kept as the house's secret. The tour ends with a tasting of three labels, in the heart of the still-active plant.
