illycaffè

Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia

Founded in 1933 by Francesco Illy, the company made Trieste its home and its nine-origin arabica blend a symbol of Italian espresso worldwide. The plant on Via Flavia, covering around 96,000 square metres, opens its doors to guided tours tracing the whole production cycle, from selecting the green beans to roasting, cooling and packaging in a controlled atmosphere. The visit includes the Illy Gallery, dedicated to the brand's history and values, and recalls the legacy of Ernesto Illy, who in 1974 industrialised the first pressurised single-dose pod. An experience telling how a family roastery became an international benchmark for coffee culture.
