Masciarelli

San Martino sulla Marrucina, Abruzzo

Founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli in San Martino sulla Marrucina, the winery has grown to include around 300 hectares of vineyards and olive groves spread across Abruzzo's four provinces, becoming one of the best-known names abroad for Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. Gianni was among the first in the region to adopt the Guyot training system and French oak barrique ageing, techniques underlying labels such as Villa Gemma and the wines of his wife Marina Cvetic. The visit includes the historic cellars and, for those who wish, the eighteenth-century hamlet of Castello di Semivicoli, now set among the vine rows. Still family-run today, Masciarelli remains a reference point for quality Abruzzo winemaking.
