Paternoster

Barile, Basilicata

A Barile winery founded in 1925 by Anselmo Paternoster, among the first to believe in the potential of Aglianico del Vulture at a time when Basilicata wine was still little known outside the region. The estate grows vineyards on the slopes of Monte Vulture, a dormant volcano whose ash has made the soils especially mineral-rich. Among its historic labels is "Don Anselmo", dedicated to the founder and considered one of the denomination's signature wines. The winery, carved into the tuff following the tradition of Barile's "sassi" cave dwellings, can be visited together with the surrounding vineyards.
