Founded in 1966 by Francesco Paolo Avallone, Villa Matilde has brought back to life the ancient Ager Falernus, the land of the legendary Falernum praised by Horace and Pliny in Roman times. Its vineyards spread across the slopes of Monte Massico, between Cellole and Mondragone, growing Falanghina, Aglianico and Piedirosso, the basis of Falerno del Massico DOC. The estate is today a benchmark for winemaking in the Caserta area, with a historic winery that tells the bond between classical myth and contemporary wine. The visit takes in a walk through the vineyards and the winemaking rooms, with a tasting of the estate's historic labels.
