A key player in the history of Fumane and the Valpolicella Classica since the sixteenth century, the Allegrini family went through a decisive turning point in the 1960s thanks to Giovanni Allegrini, one of the architects of the area's quality revival. In 1979 Giovanni bought the once-abandoned La Grola hill, in Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, and replanted it with Corvina, creating one of the estate's most recognisable crus. Its vineyards now cover more than a hundred hectares in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, on south-east-facing hills sheltered by Monte Baldo and Monte Pastello. The visit offers a walk through these hillside vineyards and a tasting of Amarone and Recioto, the wines that best express the family's style.
