Founded in 1772 by the Boscaini family, starting with the first harvest in the Vaio dei Masi, the small valley near Gargagnago that gives the estate its name, Masi Agricola is today run by the sixth and seventh generations and is among the largest producers of Amarone della Valpolicella, with around twelve million bottles a year. The visit includes the fruttaio, where the grapes rest in autumn on traditional cane racks during drying, a technique as old as the Romans that the company has helped update through years of research. In the drying rooms, modern sensors constantly monitor the weight and humidity of the bunches, ensuring the concentration of sugars and aromas that characterises Amarone. The tour ends among the historic cellars of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, the heart of production.
