Barberani

Baschi, Umbria

Overlooking Lake Corbara, in the municipality of Baschi, the Barberani winery has revived the old Orvieto tradition of noble rot, favoured by the lakeside microclimate that helps botrytis develop on the grapes. Calcaia, the botrytised wine born from this research, came out with its first vintage in 1986 and remains a benchmark for this style in Italy. The estate grows 55 hectares of vineyard among the hills around the lake, dedicated mainly to Orvieto Classico grape varieties. Vineyard and cellar visits end with a tasting of the wines, from the Classico to the botrytised styles.
