Lungarotti

Torgiano, Umbria

After the Second World War Giorgio Lungarotti was among the pioneers of modern Umbrian winemaking, restructuring the hills around Torgiano into specialised vineyards and selecting the area's native grape varieties. From this work came Rubesco in 1962, still the winery's signature label today. In 1974 Giorgio and his wife Maria Grazia Marchetti founded the Museo del Vino di Torgiano next to the winery, set up in the seventeenth-century Palazzo Graziani-Baglioni with more than three thousand items and named by the New York Times among the best in Italy. The visit combines a tour of the winery and a wine tasting with a walk through the museum's rooms.
