Cantina della Volta

Bomporto, Emilia-Romagna

The Bellei family has made wine in the Modena area since the 1920s; in the 1970s Giuseppe Bellei was the first to vinify Lambrusco using the classic method, bottle-fermentation borrowed from Champagne. In 2010 his son Christian founded Cantina della Volta in Bomporto, dedicating it entirely to these sparkling wines made from Lambrusco di Sorbara grapes with long lees ageing. The name recalls the Naviglio di Bomporto, the canal along which merchant boats once made "la volta", the turn back towards Modena. Guided tours cross the vineyards and the historic winery, revealing how Lambrusco di Sorbara can express itself with the elegance of a classic-method wine.
