A wine cooperative founded in 1960 in Santadi, in the Sulcis, works bush-trained Carignano grapes, often on ungrafted rootstock thanks to sandy soils that protected the vines from phylloxera. Its partnership with winemaker Giacomo Tachis gave rise to labels such as Terre Brune and Rocca Rubia, which brought Carignano del Sulcis to international critical attention. The visit takes in the historic vineyards, some with century-old vines, and the winery where the grape is vinified in different styles, from everyday wines to top-of-range labels. A journey telling the revival of one of Sardinia's most arid and windswept winegrowing areas.
