Castello Banfi

Montalcino, Tuscany

Castello Banfi was born in 1978 from the vision of Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, who brought together an estate of almost 2,800 hectares south of Montalcino, on the border with the UNESCO World Heritage Val d'Orcia. The castle, originally the Castello di Poggio alle Mura, has early medieval origins and was rebuilt in 1438. The visit crosses the historic cellar, through neat rows of barrique and large casks, and on to the wine shop, ending with a tasting of the estate's wines, from Brunello to Super Tuscan reds.
