Founded in 1979 by brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella, the latter among the most internationally renowned Italian winemakers, Falesco is based in Montefiascone, on the shores of Lake Bolsena, home to the medieval legend of Bishop Defuk and his Est! Est!! Est!!!. The estate makes this historic Trebbiano-and-Malvasia denomination, but also owes part of its fame to Montiano, a single-varietal Merlot that helped bring international attention to Lazio and Umbria winemaking. The vineyards, spread across the hills of northern Lazio and southern Umbria, reflect the Cotarella family's approach, always focused on varietal research and quality in the vineyard. The Montefiascone winery remains the production heart and the reference point for anyone wanting a close look at this entrepreneurial story.
