Grosjean Frères

Quart, Aosta Valley

The Grosjean family has farmed the land in Quart since the seventeenth century, but it was after the Second World War that Dauphin Grosjean invested in the estate's vineyards, bottling the first wine in 1968. The vineyards climb between 500 and 900 metres above sea level on slopes as steep as 80%, requiring up to 700-800 hours of manual labour per hectare, against an Italian average of around 150. Alongside international varieties such as Pinot Noir and Gamay, planted as early as the 1970s, the estate grows Petite Arvine and vinifies as a single varietal the Premetta, an extremely rare native grape at risk of extinction. In 2011 it became the first winery in the Aosta Valley to convert to organic farming, and today offers cellar visits by appointment.
