Founded in 1975 and active since 1979, La Kiuva is the cooperative bringing together around sixty winegrowers across the terraces of Arnad, held up by dry-stone walls and grown using the traditional pergola-trained "topie" system. Here Nebbiolo, known locally as Picotendro, grows between 380 and 500 metres above sea level, adapted over centuries to the Alps' harsh climate, giving rise to the Arnad-Montjovet DOC. The cellar visit reveals a heroic winegrowing landscape, shaped by generations of mountain farmers' labour. With around 70,000 bottles a year, La Kiuva remains a stronghold of Alpine viticulture in one of Italy's smallest wine areas.
