Marchesi Antinori

San Casciano in Val di Pesa (Bargino), Tuscany

The Antinori family has made wine in Tuscany for more than six centuries, and in 2012 opened its new winery, designed by the Archea Associati studio, in Bargino, in the municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa: a building carved into the Chianti Classico hillside and covered with the excavated earth, among the most award-winning wine architecture projects in the world. The structure, capable of producing up to around 2.5 million bottles a year, brings together vineyards, winemaking cellar and ageing rooms in a single underground journey. Visitors can follow guided routes tracing the winemaking process, from grape reception to the barrel rooms and on to the tasting rooms. An experience combining the Florentine family's centuries-old history with contemporary architecture in the heart of the Chianti Classico.
