Museo della Liquirizia Giorgio Amarelli

Rossano, Calabria

In the Palazzo Amarelli in Rossano, a fifteenth-century family residence remodelled in eighteenth-century style and surrounded by a citrus garden, the famous Calabrian liquorice has been made since 1731. The museum, opened in 2001, traces the plant's history through period tools, documents and photographs of traditional processing, and is among the most visited in Calabria, with around 50,000 visitors a year. The visit ends at the shop and tasting area, where visitors can sample liquorice ice cream and biscuits.
