Olio Roi

Badalucco, Liguria

The story of Olio Roi begins in 1900, when Giuseppe Boeri, known as Pepin u Roi, built the family's first olive press in Badalucco from wood and stone from the Valle Argentina. The Roi brand itself was born in the 1980s, when Franco Boeri decided to bottle and sell the extra-virgin Taggiasca oil under the family's nickname rather than its original company name. Today the company, now in its fifth generation, works exclusively with Taggiasca olives grown among centuries-old trees and dry-stone walls, and has turned the old press into a museum preserving intact the memory of traditional processing. The visit, by appointment, ends with a tasting of bread, olives and Taggiasca oil in the garden next to the museum.
