In 1897, at the age of twenty-three, future President of the Republic Luigi Einaudi bought the Villa San Giacomo in Dogliani along with the first ten hectares of vineyard, starting a business the family now runs in its fourth generation with Matteo Sardagna Einaudi. The winery was among the first to bottle Dolcetto di Dogliani, so much so that its Dogliani Superiore Tecc label is still known today as "the President's Dolcetto". President Sergio Mattarella visited the estate to mark seventy years since Einaudi took office as Italy's first head of state, among rows of vines that today also give rise to Barolo and Nebbiolo. Guided tours cross the vineyards and historic cellars, with a tasting of the estate's wines.
